Musician Clemons Held in Battering of Woman
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Clarence Clemons, who played saxophone with Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, was in jail Saturday on charges he punched and kicked his girlfriend at a vacation home in the Florida Keys.
Clemons, 54, was arrested by Palm Beach County deputies at his Riviera Beach home Friday night and jailed without bond on a domestic battery warrant out of the Keys’ Monroe County. He faces a court appearance there Monday.
Sharlene Smalley, 50, told deputies Clemons attacked her Dec. 6 during an argument while visiting a friend in Islamorada. She said Clemons became angry and pushed her to the ground and, later that night, threw her into a wall, kicked her and punched her repeatedly.
