Orange Coast College collected 2,955 holiday presents for needy and abused youngsters during its annual holiday gift drive.
Dolls, sports equipment, toys, games and clothing were among the $20,000 worth of gifts gathered during the 12th annual Angel Tree Project. Presents range in value from $1 to $200. One participant brought in a new bike and helmet.
Orange County social services agencies will distribute the toys on behalf of students and faculty in time for Christmas.
In a separate campus drive, the Psi Beta Honor Society, a group of high-achieving psychology students, donated about 100 teddy bears to Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The stuffed animals will go to patients hospitalized during Christmas.
The society is composed of 25 students and two psychology instructors.
The donation is part of a nationwide effort by the society to help sick and injured children.
