Adam Deadmarsh had two goals and two assists Tuesday as the depleted Colorado Avalanche overcame the loss of two players and a two-goal deficit to rally for a 4-3 victory over the Red Wings at Denver.

Already playing without leading scorer Peter Forsberg and two other front-line players, Colorado lost right wing Rene Corbet and defenseman Alexei Gusarov to injuries in the second and third periods.

The Avalanche rallied after Martin Lapointe drew a five-minute major for his hit on Gusarov, tying the game, 3-3, when Scott Young put a slap shot past Detroit goaltender Mike Vernon with 9:12 left.

After killing Detroit’s only power play of the game, the Avalanche took the lead at 14:01 on Eric Lacroix’s 10th goal of the season.

Boston 6, Pittsburgh 4--For the first time in almost seven years, the Bruins left Pittsburgh with a souvenir: two points.

Ted Donato had two goals and two assists in a five-goal second period as the Bruins ended a long winless streak in Pittsburgh.

Boston had lost its last four games and was on a 0-5-1 streak. It was the Bruins’ first win at the Civic Arena since Jan. 2, 1990, ending a 0-16-1 streak that included playoffs.

Phoenix 4, Washington 3--Keith Tkachuk scored two goals and finished off a three-goal, third-period rally as the Coyotes beat the Capitals at Phoenix.

Jim Johnson and Oleg Tverdovsky also scored as the Coyotes won their third consecutive game.

Toronto 6, San Jose 3--Rookie Sergei Berezin scored the go-ahead goal and Mats Sundin added two goals as the Maple Leafs pulled away in the third period at San Jose.
