Suspect in Shooting of Rookie LAPD Officer Is Arraigned
One of three suspects in the shooting of Los Angeles Police Officer Jay Cicinelli was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of attempted murder, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said.
Martin Benitez, 25, was arrested after Cicinelli, a 24-year-old rookie, was critically injured when an assailant fired at him Saturday during a traffic stop.
Benitez was apprehended after he checked into a hospital with gunshot wounds sustained from shots fired by Cicinelli’s partner, officers said. Police on Monday named a second suspect still at large, Raul Jimenez, 46. A third suspect has not been identified.
Cicinelli remains in stable condition after showing improvement since the weekend, but he will lose the use of his left eye, police said Tuesday.
