Two Armed Men Enter Upscale House
LAGUNA NIGUEL — Police are searching for two armed men who jumped a backyard fence Friday and entered an upscale home moments after the occupants escaped, authorities said.
About 4 p.m., police received a 911 call from a 32-year-old woman who said she saw two men with a rifle and a shotgun jump over her backyard fence on St. Croix. The woman and her 4-year-old child ran upstairs before the men entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door, said Lt. Tom Garner of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The child and the woman, who screamed for help on an upstairs balcony, were rescued by neighbors with a ladder, Garner said.
Nearby homes were evacuated, and a SWAT team searched the house, but the men weren’t found, Garner said.
Police said the intruders’ motive was not known.
