Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the murder of a Laguna Hills man who was shot to death at a Carson fast-food restaurant during a carjacking attempt, authorities said Friday.
Alan M. Peterson was shot at 12:50 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant at 20423 S. Avalon Blvd. after refusing to give up the keys to his Lexus, said Deputy Mark Bailey. Peterson died at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.
Bailey said the 62-year-old engineer, who worked on highway construction, had just emerged from the restaurant when he was approached by the gunman while two other men waited in an Oldsmobile Cutlass. Authorities believe the Cutlass was stolen from a Gardena man who gave up his Oldsmobile to a gunman at an Astro Burger restaurant on Rosecrans Avenue earlier in the day.
