Expanded Bingo Up for Approval

Final consideration will be given tonight to a proposal to allow a local drum and bugle corps to hold bingo more than one night a week.

The Anaheim Kingsmen, who run bingo games once a week to finance their music competitions, have asked the City Council to change their license to allow them to hold games several times a week.

The group also recently lost several instruments in a theft at their practice hall on Beach Boulevard and need to raise money to replace them.

The council said they would consider the proposal on certain conditions.

Once they are out of the red, the group must donate part of their bingo proceeds to help other groups in the community.

Councilmen David John Shawver and Harry Dotson said they would like to see some of the money donated to the library, where the county recently cut the budget by $90,000.

The council also wants the group to change its name from the Anaheim Kingsmen to the Stanton Kingsmen, a move the council hopes will enhance community pride.
