Third-Rate Performance Beats Cal Lutheran, 41-11

The third quarter was no charm for Cal Lutheran.

The Kingsmen committed three turnovers and surrendered 27 points in the third quarter of a 41-11 setback to Redlands in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday night at Ted Runner Stadium in Redlands.

Cal Lutheran (3-4, 2-2 in conference) committed six turnovers, including four fumbles--two of which resulted in touchdowns by Mike Benson of Redlands (4-3, 3-0).

Ryan Huisenga of Cal Lutheran completed 18 of 37 passes for 187 yards with one interception. He scored the Kingsmen’s touchdown on a three-yard run and ran for the two-point conversion with 43 seconds remaining in the game.

Cal Lutheran’s other scoring came on a 35-yard field goal by Tim Cronk with 52 seconds to play in the second quarter.

Fredrik Nanhed rushed for 187 yards in 32 carries for the Kingsmen, whose two-game winning streak was ended.

In the third quarter, Cal Lutheran’s Kevin Lyon fumbled on a punt return at the Kingsmen seven-yard line. The ball rolled into the end zone, where Benson recovered.

Rino Marconi of Redlands completed 16 of 33 passes for 204 yards and four touchdowns.
