TUSTIN — An 18-year-old Tustin man was being sought by police after witnesses reported seeing him kill his 21-year-old roommate during a quarrel early Monday morning, authorities said.
Joel Munoz was being sought in connection with the slaying of Alberto Velasquez at the Cordova Apartments, 14400 Newport Ave., Tustin Det. Tom Tarpley said. Police found the victim dead at the scene shortly before 1 a.m., and witnesses named Munoz as the assailant.
Police have had past contacts with Munoz, but “nothing significant,” Tarpley said. The nature of the quarrel remains unknown. “That’s the question we have to answer,” Tarpley said.
Police, citing the confidentiality of an ongoing investigation, did not disclose the method used in Velasquez’s slaying.
Munoz was described as Latino, 5 foot 6, 145 pounds and last seen wearing a light-color shirt. Police are asking anyone with information on the case to call detectives at (714) 573-3240.
