Sylmar 21, Van Nuys 0--Donald Carpenter rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries for the Spartans (3-2, 2-0) at Van Nuys.
Carpenter, in his best game since transferring from Taft in September, scored on runs of 47 and nine yards in the first quarter.
Angel Guerrero added a 30-yard touchdown reception from Chris Cervantes in the third quarter to close out the Sylmar scoring. Cervantes completed six of 14 for 91 yards, with no interceptions.
Errol Bowen added 73 yards in nine carries for Sylmar.
Discipline, however, was a problem for Sylmar--the Spartans were penalized 19 times for 155 yards.
Carlos Mack led Van Nuys (2-3, 1-1), rushing for 90 yards in 14 carries.
