Chapman Likely to Pile Up Points Again

Chapman has outscored its first three opponents by an average score of 42-9, and that trend probably will continue this weekend, when the Panthers travel to Thousand Oaks for a Saturday afternoon game against Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran is 0-3 after losing to San Diego, 44-19, to La Verne, 34-10, and to Azusa Pacific, 40-22.

NCAA stats: Chapman’s Mario Acosta is third in the NCAA Division III in punting average. Acosta, a junior from Servite who was second in the nation last season at 40.2, is averaging 44.7.
Cal Lutheran’s Jeff Shea leads the nation with a 45.9 average.
As a team, Chapman is fourth in total offense (533.7) and second in rushing offense (374.7). The Panthers are ranked 21st in the nation by Football Gazette.

Cross-country: Southern California College is hosting its annual cross-country invitational Saturday on the course in the Upper Newport Bay.
Chapman, Concordia, Cal Baptist and The Master’s are the other teams in the field.

Men’s soccer: Southern California College (5-5, 2-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference) hosts Concordia (3-7-2, 0-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

They said it: “I’m very proud of our special teams,” said Chapman football Coach Ken Visser after the 44-15 victory that included a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown by Chico State. “When they gave up the punt return, they considered it an insult. They really picked it up the rest of the game.”
