Car Hits and Kills Man, Dog on Walk

PACOIMA — A 49-year-old Arleta man and his dog were struck and killed by a car while on an evening stroll Saturday, authorities said.
The man’s 11-year-old son was also on the walk but he did not suffer any injuries, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Police were interviewing the driver of the car Saturday night to determine the cause of the accident, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m. in the 10900 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
Paramedics found the man, whose identity had not yet been released, near the curb, Humphrey said, and pronounced him dead on arrival.
The cocker spaniel was found about 30 yards away, still breathing, but died before officers from the Los Angeles Department of Animal Regulation arrived.
The man suffered severe head and body injuries, Humphrey said.
“It was a very, very traumatic incident,” Humphrey said.
