The public will have three more opportunities this month to address a citizens committee on selection of a superintendent for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The committee, appointed by the Los Angeles school board last month, will hold hearings at 6:30 tonight at Huntington Park High School at 6020 Miles Ave., Huntington Park, and at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Belmont High School, 1575 W. 2nd St., Los Angeles.
The public may also address the committee at its final meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in Room H-163 at district headquarters, 450 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles. The committee will present its recommendations to the board on Aug. 5.
The 14-member panel was created to help the board develop criteria for choosing a successor to Supt. Sid Thompson, who will step down next June. The group recently surveyed about 900 individuals and organizations, which ranked toughness, vision for the future of education, commitment to raising student achievement and keeping schools clean and safe as among the top goals for the new leader.
