LOUISIANA : Grand Jury Indicts Mike Espy’s Brother
A federal grand jury in New Orleans charged the brother of former U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy with making false statements to a bank to illegally obtain a $75,000 loan and violating federal election laws. The indictment was related to Henry William Espy Jr.’s failed bid three years ago to fill the congressional seat vacated by Mike Espy when he was named to the Clinton Cabinet. Henry Espy, who was the mayor of Clarksdale, Miss., at the time, his former campaign chairman, a law firm and a health care company are accused of lying to a bank to secure a loan.
