Carsona Breaks Yearlong Drought with Feature Win

Kent Desormeaux had Carsona pressing for the lead early, took it with half a mile to run and had just enough to hold off a charge by Really Talented to win Friday night’s feature at Hollywood Park by half a length.
The $39,500 allowance run for fillies and mares offered Carsona, a 4-year-old daughter of Carson City trained by Jack Saip, an opportunity to win for the first time since breaking her maiden on June 24, 1995. She ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 1/5 over a firm turf course and paid $18.60 to win.
Carsona, who broke from the outside spot in the eight-horse field earned $21,725 for the win.
Victor Espinoza had Really Talented, the 5-2 second choice, on the inside while rallying and finished three lengths ahead of Oklahoma Morn.
