Motorist Dies After Crashing Into Building
SANTA ANA — A 22-year-old Santa Ana man was killed Saturday night when the car he was driving crashed into a building on Main Street, police said.
Roberto Alejandre Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 6:26 p.m. accident, said Santa Ana Police Lt. Dave Petko.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove him from the vehicle, Petko said.
Witnesses told police that Hernandez lost control of his Mustang while driving north on Main Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle spun around nearly 180 degrees, then crashed into the building at 1801 S. Main St., Petko said.
“He left yards and yards and yards of skids,†said Petko, adding that police think Hernandez might have been drag-racing. “The impact pretty much crunched the car.â€
The Mustang caught fire, Petko said, but Hernandez appeared to have been killed by the impact of the crash.
