Gala Raises $80,000 for Nicole Brown Foundation
ANAHEIM — A black-tie gala Saturday night drew 400-plus guests and raised more than $80,000 for the Nicole Brown Simpson Charitable Foundation.
The dinner, dance and auction at the Disneyland Hotel were emceed by TV host Geraldo Rivera and attorney Christopher Darden, a member of the O.J. Simpson prosecution team. Marcia Clark, another of the prosecutors, also attended.
Brown family members attending included Lou and Juditha Brown of Dana Point and their daughters, Denise, Dominique and Tanya.
At a news conference before the event kicked off at 7 p.m., Dominique Brown of Dana Point said, “Tonight is exciting, and we want to keep a positive tone. We are looking in a direction of ‘Let’s fix it,’ not at what’s behind us.â€
Denise Brown added: “Tonight is about survival. We are having a speaker talk about how she survived domestic violence. Nobody hears from survivors--that’s why tonight will be so positive.â€
Established two years ago by the Browns in memory of their slain daughter, the foundation supports shelters for victims of domestic violence. In January, $168,000 was distributed to 78 shelters in 30 states, said Lou Brown, its treasurer.
