A gun-wielding mugger stole $725 from a 27-year-old Ventura man near the Buenaventura Mall, police said Saturday.

John Cesario required treatment for a minor head wound at Community Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon after the robber struck him over the head with a revolver, authorities said.

The incident occurred at South Mills Road and Preble Avenue as Cesario was getting out of his car near a market, police said.

The mugger walked up to Cesario, pointed a gun at him and forced him to walk into a nearby alley.

After taking money from Cesario, the robber hit him with the handgun, police said.

Cesario drove himself to the hospital, where staff discovered him unconscious in the parking lot.

The mugger is described as possibly a homeless man in his mid-30s, about 6 feet tall with long bushy hair, a full beard and an 8-inch scar on his right forearm.
