FLORIDA : Hearings on Alleged INS Deceit Urged

Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) called for congressional hearings into a new report that says federal immigration officials attempted to deceive members of Congress about overcrowding and security problems during a tour of Miami immigration facilities last June. A Justice Department investigation found that senior Immigration and Naturalization Service managers transferred or released scores of illegal immigrants from Miami detention facilities last June in an effort to mislead a seven-member congressional delegation, led by Gallegly.
