NATION IN BRIEF : LOUISIANA : Judge Orders D.A. to Give Up JFK Files
A federal judge has ordered New Orleans Dist. Atty. Harry Connick to turn over records on President Kennedy’s assassination to a U.S. government agency. The ruling caps a bitter dispute between Connick and the U.S. Assassination Records Review Board, responsible for screening assassination documents and making public those that do not endanger national security. Connick argued that he should not be compelled to surrender documents gathered by his predecessor, the late Jim Garrison. Garrison’s family, however, voluntarily handed over to the review board other assassination documents kept in his personal files.
