Pleasing the Moviegoer
I read with interest the article by Charles Crellin, “Movies Trivialize Martial Arts,†(Calendar, June 10). This is the nature of movies. Reality, philosophy and virtue be “Dammed,†Hollywood gives audiences what they want: fantastic action, aggression and violence. And the hero always “wins.†But then, if reality, decency, honor and compassion were served, Jean-Claude Van Damme and his kind would have to find new jobs.
