OLYMPICS REPORT / 33 DAYS TO THE GAMES : U.S. Cruises to 15-9 Win Over Australia
Troy Glaus hit a triple and a homer and Jacque Jones had five hits as the United States defeated Australia, 15-9, at Millington, Tenn.
Jones went five for six with a double, a triple and four runs batted in as the United States, 8-0 in 1996 and winners of 29 consecutive games, pounded out 19 hits.
The U.S. roster was reduced to 25 when pitcher Ryan Drese of California withdrew from the active roster because of an elbow injury and four other players were dropped. Ryan Brannan of Long Beach State, Nathan Dunn of Louisiana State, Eric Milton of Maryland and Evan Thomas of Florida International were released.
