A 33-year-old Los Angeles man was shot in the leg by an assailant Saturday night, but he refused help from bystanders and instead drove several blocks to a bar he had just left. The bartender, who had served him a drink earlier in the evening, called him an ambulance.

Martin Hough told Los Angeles police officers that he was locking his car in the liquor store parking lot on Riverside Drive and Colfax Avenue around 8 p.m. when he was shot in the upper thigh by a gunman in a car parked next to him. The motive for the shooting was unknown, and the shooter remained at large, police said.

When several people came to his aid, Hough told police, he pushed them away and yelled, “I’m all right,†then embarked on a 10-minute drive back to the Apache Bar on Ventura Boulevard.

“He’s a good customer. He spends a lot of money here,†said Jim Rios, general manager of the bar. “But I don’t know why he drove back.â€

Hough was taken to North Hollywood Medical Center for treatment.
