Wounded Officer Gets $100,000 Settlement

A Simi Valley police officer accidentally shot in the leg by his partner as they tried to subdue a mentally ill man settled a civil lawsuit with the man’s family for $100,000, the officer’s attorney said Thursday. Officer David Raduziner sued Mark Pedersen and his family after Pedersen allegedly lunged at Raduziner with a knife last year, prompting a second officer to open fire.
Raduziner filed suit in January, accusing Bea and Robert Pedersen of negligence for failing to warn the officers about their son’s behavior. Their homeowner’s insurance paid the settlement, said William Koontz, Raduziner’s lawyer.
Mark Pedersen is charged with attempted murder and assault, and remains in custody awaiting a September jury trial. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
