Oklahoma St. 12, Fresno St. 5--Jamey Wood’s two-run homer in the fifth inning broke a 3-3 tie and the Cowboys (43-19) advanced to a game against USC. Fresno State (36-22) will play Texas Tech.

CENTRAL I

Southwest Missouri State 13, UCLA 2--At Austin, Texas, the Bears (32-23) scored three runs in the top of the first inning against Bruin starter Pete Zamora (6-1). He was removed with one out in the second after giving up a three-run homer to center field by Dan Kneeshaw.

Southwest Missouri, the only undefeated team left in the regional, pounded out 16 hits, four of them home runs.

UCLA (34-27), seeded fourth, struggled against starter John Hardin (4-2), who pitched a five-hitter. The Bruins play Sam Houston State today at 10 a.m.

Miami 5, Long Beach State 2--Alex Cora drove in two runs with a single during a three-run second inning that helped the top-seeded Hurricanes (44-13) eliminate the 49ers (34-26).

Clint Weibl (13-3) pitched 8 1/3 innings, giving up five hits. The outing was the longest for a Miami starter this season.

Long Beach starter Marcus Jones (9-5), the Big West Conference’s pitcher of the year, gave up 10 hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Texas 4, Sam Houston State 2--Designated hitter Jason Layne went three for three with a run scored and an RBI for third-seeded Texas (39-23).
