Once again, Harvard-Westlake High did it with depth.
The Wolverines won eight of nine points in doubles play en route to a 12-6 victory over Glendale in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division II boys’ playoffs Tuesday at the Studio City Racquet Centre.
“We’re pretty strong in doubles,” said Farbod Nasseri, who teamed with David Hatkoff to sweep three sets at No. 1 doubles. “Most high school teams have one or two good players, and that’s it. We’re strong all the way through.”
The Wolverines also were doubles trouble for Hoover in the second round, winning all nine doubles points in a 12-6 victory.
Harvard-Westlake (19-2), the top-seeded team in the division, advances to the semifinals against Sunny Hills on Thursday.
The Wolverines rebounded from a tiebreaker loss by the No. 3 pair of Ben Gales and Mark Tronstein in the first doubles set.
Gales and Tronstein came back to defeat Ben Hong and Farshid Hajimirzaee, 6-2, and won, 6-0, over Glendale’s No. 1 team of David Kim and Richard Yoon.
“We made sure not to get frustrated after losing that tiebreaker,” Gales said.
Glendale (19-2) had a 13-match winning streak snapped.
