Council to Discuss Gas Station Plans
The Moorpark City Council is scheduled Thursday to discuss a proposed Mobil gas station that has rankled some local residents who are worried about safety of the facility during an earthquake.
The council postponed a decision on the matter in early May pending a study of an earthquake fault that lies under the proposed station planned for Spring and Tierra Rejada roads.
In addition to the gas station, the developer of the property, Marketplace Properties, is proposing to build a small shopping center and day-care center.
During the most recent meeting on the plan, several residents complained that the council shouldn’t approve putting a day-care center next to a gas station and that a fault line under the land made it dangerous to build there. In addition, residents complained that the facility was inappropriate for a site considered the “gateway to the city.â€
The special council meeting on the matter begins at 7:30 p.m. at Moorpark City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave.
