Foothill Opens Playoffs With Victory
Ryan Ellis had 21 kills and Stuart Lambourne had 18 for host Foothill (16-1), which beat Valencia, 15-4, 15-12, 15-9, in a Division II wild-card boys’ volleyball match.
Foothill (16-1) advanced to play Lakewood, which defeated La Quinta, 15-10, 15-1, 16-18, 15-6.
Kevin Jackley had 11 kills for Valencia (16-4).
In other Division II matches:
Calvary Chapel 3, Garden Grove 0--Jason Mandall had 17 kills as third-seeded Calvary Chapel won, 15-5, 15-6, 15-7. Ryan Clarkson had 10 kills for Garden Grove (10-8). Calvary Chapel (14-2) will face the Tustin-Los Altos winner.
Lakewood 3, La Quinta 1--Scott Ogilvie had 17 kills for La Quinta in the losing effort. Lakewood (15-3) won, 15-10, 15-1, 16-18, 15-6. La Quinta ends the season 15-1.
Long Beach Poly 3, Western 0--Steve Sieks had 12 kills to lead Western, which lost, 15-10, 15-8, 15-9. Chris Lewis had 19 kills for Long Beach Poly.
Tustin 3, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 0--Matt Kraus had 21 kills and Brandon Dove had 19 for visiting Tustin (14-5), which won, 15-12, 15-11, 15-12. Tustin will play Calvary Chapel in the second round.
In Division III:
Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Long Beach St. Anthony’s 0--Travis Dunn had 14 kills and James Williams had 10 in the 15-10, 15-13, 15-6 victory for Capistrano Valley Christian (18-1).
Tim Baker added eight kills for the Eagles, who advance to the quarterfinals Friday to play Hollywood Campbell Hall.
