Clerk Fatally Shot in Store Robbery

MOORPARK — A 21-year-old clerk was shot and killed Sunday during a robbery at the market where he worked, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said.

Marco Aurelio Rodriguez of Canoga Park was shot several times in the head about 11:25 a.m. as he worked at a cash register at Carniceria Rodriguez. His killer took an undetermined amount of money from the store and fled without being seen by the other store employees.

Sheriff’s Deputy Chuck Buttell said three co-workers in a rear area of the store did not see anyone enter or leave.

Instead, one heard a noise up near the front and went to investigate. He found Rodriguez, the owner’s son, lying on the ground and called 911.
