Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Bailey Cites Shapiro, Simpson in Jailing

F. Lee Bailey blamed the nation’s bias against O.J. Simpson for keeping him in a Florida jail 44 days for contempt of court. He also accused Simpson co-counsel Robert Shapiro of lying in his testimony against him. Bailey was freed after surrendering stock and posting cash that authorities said belonged to the government. Appearing on NBC-TV’s “Today†show and in an interview with the New York Daily News, he said he had trouble borrowing funds because lenders were unsympathetic in light of the Simpson case outcome.
