Esperanza Upsets Los Alamitos in Boys’ Tennis

Esperanza rallied to win the final set and hand host Los Alamitos its first Sunset League boys’ tennis loss, edging the Griffins, 83-79, on games after the teams split 18 sets Friday.
Esperanza’s Brian Woo defeated Todd Kaplan, 7-6 (7-3 in the tiebreaker), to secure the victory for the Aztecs (8-7, 4-4). Tom Lloyd swept in singles for Esperanza, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
Los Alamitos is 7-1 in league.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 15, Kennedy 9--Ryan Woo swept his singles sets, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with Nikhil Doga to win in doubles, 6-0, for Cypress.
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 21, Valencia 3--Hien Ta of Brea Olinda (17-1, 6-0) defeated Valencia’s Jeff Tobolski, 7-5, handing Tobolski his first league defeat of the season.
In nonleague golf:
El Dorado 211, Canyon 218--Corey Fox and Darren Boyle each shot three-over 38s at Western Hills for El Dorado (11-6).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Canyon 96, Buena Park 70--Adrian Vanciu won the 100 and 200 freestyle for Buena Park.
Santa Margarita 90, Laguna Hills 80--Philippe Demers won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly for Santa Margarita.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Canyon 136, Buena Park 20--Mellisa Luque won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle for Canyon (6-3).
Laguna Hills 99, Santa Margarita 71--Carla Rodriguez won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke for Laguna Hills, which beat Santa Margarita for first time in school history.
