NEWPORT BEACH — A 26-year-old United Parcel Service delivery man sustained major injuries Thursday night after his truck collided head-on with another driver, resulting in a four-car crash, police said.
Christopher Hurney of Corona was driving east on West Coast Highway about 5:20 p.m. when he, for undetermined reasons, lost control of the truck at Bayside Drive and swerved across the raised center median, said Newport Beach Police Investigator Bill Graham. Hurney then struck a van head-on and two other cars crashed into the wreck, Graham said.
Hurney suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. His condition was not immediately available, Graham said.
One other driver complained of pains and was treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and released. The other two drivers were not injured.
The collision remains under investigation, Graham said.
