Council Urges State to Restore Library Funds

The state has taken away community library money and it should give it back, City Council members said this week.
The council unanimously passed a resolution this week urging the Legislature “to restore funding for the Orange County library system in order to avoid further library closures and elimination of vital library services.”
As recently as fiscal 1993-94, the council stated in its resolution, the county library system got more than a fourth of its income from the state-authorized Special District Augmentation Fund. In fiscal 1994-95, that funding was eliminated by the Legislature.
La Palma’s library branch was among several threatened with closure because of the cash crunch.
