Lakin Breaks Brea’s 100-Meter Hurdles Record
Kendra Lakin of Brea Olinda High won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 15.7 seconds as the Wildcats beat Anaheim, 103-32, in an Orange League girls’ track and field meet Thursday.
The previous record of 16.0 was held by teammate Sarah Bonilla, who finished second in 16.0.
In the Empire League:
Loara 68, Kennedy 48--Melinda Bagley won the 800 (2:51.1) and 1,600 (6:12.3) and Ebony Harvey won 200 (27.4) and long jump (15-7) for host Kennedy (1-2).
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 83, Los Amigos 44--Amanda Giles finished first in the 100-yard dash (12.2), 220 (28.9) and long jump (13-6) for Garden Grove (2-2).
In Garden Grove League boys’ track and field:
Garden Grove 72, Los Amigos 55--Kevin Griswold won the 100-yard dash (9.7) and 220 (22.5) for fourth-ranked Garden Grove (4-0).
In Century League golf:
Villa Park 170, Orange 198--Adam Hamberian shot a one-over 31 for Villa Park (12-0, 6-0) at River View.
In the Orange League:
Western 208, Magnolia 218--Robby McConnell eagled the par-four fourth hole at Dad Miller on the way to a two-over 38 for Western (3-7, 2-3).
In Academy League softball:
Liberty Christian 13, Orangewood Academy 6--Natalie Bonillas hit a grand slam in the sixth inning for host Liberty Christian (4-3, 2-0).
In the Arrowhead League:
Southern California Christian 14, La Verne Lutheran 0 (5, mercy)--Claudette Morrell had two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored and freshman Delci Huntley pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 of the 18 hitters she faced.
In the Century League:
Canyon 8, Santa Ana Valley 3--Becky Tippets had three hits, including an RBI triple in the fifth to put visiting Canyon (14-7, 2-0) ahead, 4-3. Sharmaine Kendrick had two hits and an RBI for Santa Ana Valley (4-13, 0-2).
Villa Park 3, Orange 1--Sophomore Kristin Daniels pitched a five-hitter for her first varsity victory and Erica Shelton hit a three-run home run for Villa Park (7-10, 1-1).
In the Empire League:
Kennedy 8, Loara 0--Traci Hensel pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Kennedy (8-4, 2-0).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 1, Savanna 0--Kaycee Zywocienski’s single scored Cat Solorio in the seventh for Brea Olinda (11-6, 2-0).
Western 3, Valencia 1--Kelly Humphries’ three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh won it for Western (12-6, 1-1). Anson Jacobs had given Valencia (8-12, 1-1) a 1-0 lead with home run in the top of the inning.
In Garden Grove League girls’ swimming:
Garden Grove 114, Los Amigos 39--Sarah Pope won the 100 backstroke (1:11.25) and 200 freestyle (2:17.18) and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams for Garden Grove (4-1).
In Golden West League boys’ tennis:
Saddleback 10, Santa Ana 8--Kevin Lam and Vu Le swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-2, and Tommy Duong and Thong Phan swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, for Saddleback (9-4, 4-1).
