Expansion Is in Store for Tustin Market Place
TUSTIN — The Irvine Co. unveiled plans Thursday for a major extension of its brightly colored Tustin Market Place shopping center, saying that construction of some stores will be completed this summer.
Called Tustin Market Place II, the new shopping center across Jamboree Boulevard from the existing one will include a 10-screen Edwards Theater complex that will contain one large screen with stadium-style seating.
The new center will boast the first Orange County location for Bed, Bath & Beyond and Babies R Us stores. Other retailers include Circuit City, Sears Homelife, Barnes & Noble and Loehmann’s women’s clothing.
“The stores coming in make sense. It’s a nice addition to what’s across the street,†said Gerald Yahr, a senior vice president with developer Koll in Newport Beach.
The Irvine Co. said it expects that construction of the 425,000-square-foot shopping center will be completed next year. Planning the center took more than a year, according to the Newport Beach developer, the county’s largest landowner.
Neighboring Tustin Market Place includes Ikea, Toys R Us, Home Depot and an Edwards movie theater. Sales at the center last year were $204 million, the Irvine Co. said.
