SCC Softball Coach to Quit at Season’s End

Bekki Turner, softball coach at Southern California College since 1991, will resign at the end of this season because of personal reasons, the school announced Thursday.

Turner, named coach of the year in the Golden State Athletic Conference three times, guided the Vanguards to GSAC titles in 1993, ’94 and ’95. In 1993, SCC won the District III championship and earned an at-large berth to the NAIA national tournament, where it finished third.

Turner began the year with a career record of 169-84-2. SCC is 16-14-2 and second in the conference race.

The South Coast Sabers youth hockey team will participate in the USA Hockey national championships, April 11-14 in Cleveland.

The pee-wee tier club is made up of 16 boys ages 11-12. The Sabers are coached by Ron White.

South Coast, which has an 86-7-3 record since September, has won the California State and Pacific District titles.
