Esperanza, Junior
Golf
Hergert, playing his first season of high school golf, gave the Aztecs quite a boost last week. He shot three consecutive 35s and Esperanza won Sunset League matches with Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Los Alamitos. Against Huntington Beach, the favorite to win the league, Hergert started by making a 15-foot birdie putt at SeaCliff. Esperanza won a one-hole playoff after a 196-196 tie. Hergert shot one-under 35 at Mile Square in a 196-208 victory over Fountain Valley and par 35 at Yorba Linda Country Club in a 196-209 victory over Los Alamitos. “I really don’t know what happened,” he said. “I guess I just started to concentrate more once league started.”
