Youth : News for the 18-and-under crowd : Violinist, 11, Wins Slot in Master Class

Kathleen Mangusing, a Carden School sixth-grader and violinist in the Orange County Junior Orchestra, has become the youngest student accepted into a master class conducted by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
The 11-year-old was chosen last month from a field of 15 applicants, the rest of whom were 16 to 25 years old, for a session with Cho-Liang Lin, an internationally renowned violinist.
Kathleen, who has been studying violin for nearly eight years, also plays the piano and has entertained at a number of events. Her father, Roy Mangusing, said of her: “She has a musical gift, and she works hard.”
