Boat Fire Forces Vessel’s Evacuation
Harbor officials evacuated 11 Thousand Oaks residents from a powerboat that caught fire near the Ventura Harbor entrance on Saturday afternoon.
The fire was confined to the engine compartment of the 27-foot powerboat, which was about 800 yards south of the harbor entrance and 400 yards offshore, Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Korber said.
The people on the boat, including six children as young as 8 and five adults, were taken off the vessel without injury, he said.
Authorities used a fire extinguisher to douse the small blaze. The Fire Department was expected to investigate the cause of the incident.
