Nation IN BRIEF : TEXAS : Tainted Gas Linked to 4 Hospital Deaths

Four seriously ill patients at a veterans hospital have died after breathing oxygen that may have been tainted by a cleaning chemical. A spokesman for the Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center in Temple, Texas, said none of the deaths were believed to have been caused by the tainted gas, which was supplied by a new contractor for the hospital. But he said that officials had summoned local police, the Food and Drug Administration and Texas health authorities to investigate.
