This 1946 postwar classic finds Michael Powell in an Empyrean mood, with one of his richest fantasies: A Royal Air Force pilot (David Niven, pictured) pleads for his life before a heavenly court that proves disarmingly receptive. Co-directed and written with Emeric Pressburger; co-starring Kim Hunter, Raymond Massey, Roger Livesey and the young Richard Attenborough (Bravo Tuesday at 5 p.m.).
