Agencies to Review Disaster Preparedness

More than a dozen nonprofit agencies, government officials and police agencies from four Southern California counties will meet in Santa Ana for a conference to discuss ways of efficiently coordinating help when a major disaster strikes.
When they meet Thursday, members of the Southern California Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster--which includes Vietnamese Community Center, Goodwill Industries, Catholic Charities and local police agencies--will focus on finding better ways of coordinating relief and aid organizations in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and Imperial counties.
Also at the conference, a representative from Pacific Bell will discuss improvements in local communication.
Priscilla Schoch, chairwoman of the umbrella organization, said it has been developing a resource book listing agencies, contact names and area of expertise for people to use as a guide in case of a disaster.
“Recent disasters have been a wake-up call to disaster agencies,” Schoch said.
