San Dimas Woman Killed on Freeway
WESTMINSTER — A San Dimas woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck Sunday when she stepped out of her car, which was stopped in the carpool lane on the San Diego Freeway.
Authorities arrested Lonny Penner of Fountain Valley on suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with the 1:50 a.m. accident, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher. The victim was identified as Julie Oda, 23.
According to the dispatcher, Oda’s car was stopped in the carpool lane of the southbound San Diego Freeway near Newland Street for an unknown reason.
The pickup truck plowed into her as she stepped out of the car, the CHP said.
No other details were available Sunday.
