BOND BASICS: CSU officials hope Ventura County voters support a $3-billion statewide bond measure in March that includes nearly $1 million to plan a local campus, which would help demonstrate support for a university here. “It would be . . . a lot easier to argue that more than $936,000 should come your way in the next bond measure if it’s passed this time with strong support from your county,” says CSU Chancellor Barry Munitz.
CLEAN PATE: The federal government will soon let the makers of Rogaine sell the hair-growth treatment without a prescription. (A16) . . . And one local pharmacist foresees strong sales. “It’s going to be a huge moneymaker,” predicts Jack Beebe, owner of Central Pharmacy in Ventura. . . . But Beebe warns of one limitation: “You have to stay on the medication for as long as you care to have the hair. When you stop applying the medication, the hair goes away.”
PRESTO!: Magician Christopher J. DePalma hopes to wow ‘em during an all-magic fund-raiser April 6 at the Civic Arts Plaza to benefit Community Conscience, an umbrella organization for nonprofit groups in Thousand Oaks trying to pay off a $689,000 building mortgage. “I want to make this as spectacular as I can. This is the one to impress all my friends and old schoolteachers,” says the 1974 Newbury Park High grad who belongs to the Magic Castle’s prestigious Inner Circle. . . . Community Conscience provides free rent to 18 groups.
HOME WORK: Having more time to spend with his family is just one reason legal researcher Steve Youmans is such a big fan of telecommuting. (D7C) . . . Using a computer at Ventura College sure beats trying to conduct business during a 75-mile morning commute. “You’re trying to talk on the phone and drive at the same time, it’s more stressful,” he says. “I was pulled over a few times.”
