Archuleta Out of Section Finals

Tino Archuleta, a state-ranked wrestler for Calvary Chapel, will not compete at the Southern Section Division I wrestling finals Saturday because he failed to make weight for the Olympic League finals, Calvary Chapel Coach John Azevedo said Sunday.
Archuleta, ranked first in the county and second in the state at 112 pounds, exceeded the limit by 2 1/2 pounds at league weigh-ins, Azevedo said. According to Southern Section rules, if a wrestler fails to make weight at league finals, he cannot compete in section finals, Masters or state finals.
“Of course, losing Tino will affect us at state finals,” Azevedo said. “He’s [Archuleta] pretty bummed out, but he blew it.”
Archuleta, a Times first-team all-county selection last year at 103 pounds, finished first in the section Division I finals and eighth at Masters last season.
Armando Lucero, who qualified for section finals, will fill in at the 112-pound spot. Lucero lost to El Modena’s Jeff Sacramento, 11-1, Saturday at the section Division I Dual Meet Championships.
