Health Care for Veterans

Bill Gilmore’s recent article (“Injured Vets Need More Than a Band-Aid Station,” Jan. 21) concerning the lack of medical facilities for our veterans really disturbed me.
When are we going to wake up? Millions of dollars are spent providing medical and educational services for illegal immigrants. Millions more are available for unwed teenage mothers and for welfare programs for those who choose not to work, and God knows how many millions of dollars are spent on programs that do little or nothing to make our society a better place to live.
Granted, there are those who have a legitimate claim to public assistance, but our screening process leaves a lot to be desired.
No one, it seems, is willing to fight for our veterans, but they will most certainly scream for help from our military services if we are threatened with aggression by a foreign power.
Shame on us for electing officials who ignore this critical situation and forget who has kept us free.
