Bradshaw Can’t Get Titans Past the 49ers
Shayla Bradshaw scored 34 points, one shy of her career high, but the Titans couldn’t overcome a 13-point halftime deficit and fell to Long Beach State, 78-70, Friday in a Big West Conference game at the Pyramid.
Bradshaw had 30 points with 10 minutes remaining.
Dee Braxton had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Titans (4-15, 1-9). Ja’net Davis had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Long Beach State (10-9, 5-5).
UC Santa Barbara 75, UC Irvine 56--Allah-Mi Basheer had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the visiting Anteaters (9-10, 4-6), who committed 30 turnovers and shot 40% from the field. UC Santa Barbara is 13-6, 9-1.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Chapman 76, Master’s College 65--Faye Cruz made eight of nine field goals and finished with 19 points for host Chapman (10-7). Monique Sweet had 13 points for the Panthers.
In Big West Conference women’s gymnastics:
Cal State Fullerton 191.40, UC Santa Barbara 183.90--Led by Cristi Clifford, Cal State Fullerton (3-0) is off to its best start since 1986. Clifford had a career-high 39.05 points to win the all-around competition. Clifford also scored a career-high in the floor exercise (9.875) and won the uneven bars (9.825).
In nonconference men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 7, Hawaii 0--Marc Tardif defeated Hawaii’s Alex Sugai as UC Irvine (3-1) won its third consecutive match. Tardif and Julian Foxon defeated Alex Simon and Stuart Truter, 8-2.
Hawaii is 2-7 on the season.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Cal State Fullerton 6, Point Loma Nazarene 3--Bettina Basjic defeated Point Loma’s Kara Kolb, 6-3, 6-0 to lead the Titans (1-0). Brook Lacey also won for the Titans.
In nonconference wrestling:
Cal State Fullerton 22, San Francisco State 10--Jon DeReyes’ 11-4 decision over David Crumpler at 177 pounds clinched the match for Cal State Fullerton (2-4).
