Cavaliers Go Distance Against Suns

The Cleveland Cavaliers hit only 10 of 22 shots from inside the three-point line Friday night in the first half of their game against the Phoenix Suns at Cleveland.

No matter.

Because the Cavaliers made 10 of 17 from three-point range to tie a league record for three-pointers in a half. And that gave them enough firepower to beat Phoenix, 107-85.

The Cavaliers, who finished with 12 three-point baskets, were led in scoring by Chris Mills, who had 23 points.

Phoenix was uninspired by the return of Danny Manning from a knee injury that had sidelined him for nearly a year. Manning had 10 points and three rebounds in 26 minutes.

Shaquille O’Neal had 25 points and 16 rebounds and Anfernee Hardaway 14 points and 13 assists as the Orlando Magic defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 108-95, at Orlando. . . . Rik Smits scored 31 points and Reggie Miller had 21 as the Indiana Pacers beat the Boston Celtics, 116-108, at Indianapolis. It was the 16th consecutive home victory for the Pacers. . . . Joe Smith scored 28 points and Latrell Sprewell had 19, including five in the final 1:02, as the Golden State Warriors hung on for a 114-111 victory over the Toronto Raptors at Oakland. . . . The San Antonio Spurs finished strong in their 101-90 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at San Antonio. David Robinson had seven of his eight blocked shots in the fourth quarter and the Spurs scored 14 of the game’s final 16 points. . . . Juwan Howard had 26 points and Gheorghe Muresan 21 points and 16 rebounds at Landover, Md., where the Washington Bullets beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 113-97. . . . Armon Gilliam had 29 points and nine rebounds and Kendall Gill had 22 points as the New Jersey Nets handed the Vancouver Grizzlies their fourth straight loss, 93-84, at Vancouver.
