Hughes to Continue Radar Testing on F-14
The Pentagon has awarded a $49.5-million contract to Hughes Aircraft Co. so its engineers can continue working at Point Mugu Navy base to help test radar on the F-14 Tomcat jet fighter until the turn of the century.
The office of Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) this week received the announcement that will allow Hughes engineers to work side by side with Navy counterparts in laboratories at Point Mugu’s Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division.
Brian Miller, who handles military affairs for the congressman, said the contract should help fortify Point Mugu’s dwindling work force. “We want to keep as many jobs as we can and bring in more work,†Miller said.
