Pollution
Acknowledging that L.A. and the region cause and suffer tremendous pollution, individual instances never cease to amaze me. On my way back from the newsstand recently, I saw yet another worker ineffectively hosing down the sidewalk, and at my apartment building, a man using a gasoline-powered blower to move leaves and dust from one place to another. Both methods have generally replaced more-effective, less-polluting ones, and both are probably ordered by these people’s employers.
Sad, isn’t it, that with a rainfall deficit in this desert, and smog famous around the country, we continue to foul our own bed?
